Met Gala 2013 : Red-Carpet Faves

There were so many stunning dresses in the Met Ball this year! I know there were a lot of gowns which were not following the punk dress code, but they are still gorgeous gowns nonetheless and thus worthy of honourable mention in the form of this post. This year's Met Costume Institute Gala exhibition was named PUNK : Chaos to Couture, but I have a feeling many of them jumped the punk part and landed straight into couture! Read on for my Met Ball faves.
Queen Bey showed a lot of skin that night in a very low cut Givenchy gown. I absolutely love the orange and yellow detailing of the gown, it certainly gave Beyonce a fiery edge! The matching boots and gloves were plus points in  making sure that look was more couture than chaos. I just can't get over the detailing, it's just so amazing!
Rooney Mara (also the co-chairman of the event) slipped into a white lace zipper V-neck by Givenchy and decided to go full-on drama in her hair and makeup by swiping on almost black lipstick. Monochrome punk anyone?
Sienna Miller walked the red carpet in Burberry with a feminine touch to punk. Who knew Burberry would be so good at red-carpet punk? Sienna's punk biker jacket and white dress are a delightful mix of hard core punk and clean silhouettes. Glamorous.
Sarah Jessica Parker stepped out on the red carpet in full blown punk drama. Her Giles Deacon dress,
Philip Treacy mohawk headpiece and Louis Vuitton boots made for an elaborate and amazing outfit,  instantly putting the rest of the guests to shame. Definitely worth a 10 / 10!
A true movie star knows how to make a statement on the red carpet and Anne Hathaway did just that. Arriving in vintage Valentino, she had dyed her hair blonde, adding a fierce edge to the ensemble. Totally made up for her Oscar wardrobe malfunction! Applaud.
Emma Watson was dressed in a black silk crepe back satin hand-draped gown from Prabal Gurung and she kept the look simple with her hair swept back, but I would have preferred chunky accessories to spice up the look.
It-girl Alexa Chung showed her British pride on the red carpet in an Erdem cut out dress. On anyone else it would look really vulgar, but Alexa managed to make it look simple yet elegant. No wonder she's one of the best dressed girls in the world,  her style is just perfect!
Gwyneth Paltrow donned a hot pink Valentino gown and perhaps she thought the thigh slit was too cliché , so she chose to bare part of her chest! It was undoubtedly a unique touch although it looks to me somewhat like a Marvels hero uniform. More punk please!
Gossip Girl Blake Lively oozed va-va-voomness (is it even a word?) in a Gucci gown with a full train. I heart the embellishments around the waist and the black and grey colours definitely fit the punk theme to a T.
Actress Amanda Seyfried sported a punk print dress from Givenchy with a fabulous train. She topped off the look with bold and heavy black eyeliner. Punk does not only mean spikes when it comes to this look and what could be more punk than punk print? Talk about prints charming.
Jennifer Lopez opted for a giraffe print backless gown from Michael Kors. It complemented her hourglass figure like a second skin, however she should have swapped her clutch with a spiked one to have a more punk feel.
Meanwhile, Style icon Kate Bosworth hit the red carpet in an embellished magenta dress from Balmain. Although the look wasn't exactly punk material,  she still channelled effortless cool and the gold waist belt just made it even cooler.
Jennifer Lawrence looked stunning in her strapless black beaded Dior gown with a Jennifer Behr headband with a birdcage veil and Brian Atwood pumps. Although it wasn't punk-ish, it was class, class and more class! The look was sophisticated and youthful at the same time and her bright red lipstick really made her lips stand out. Fabulous!
Nina Dobrev chose a black lacy Monique Lhuiller number which perfectly combined glamour and punk. The sheer material showed off some skin but she managed to carry it off with panache.
Elle Fanning showed up on the red carpet in an amazing tie-dye Rodarte gown (she's apparently good friends with the designers). But that wasn't the one that made heads turn, rather it was the insane makeup! She matched the blue, black and red prints on the gown with blue and red eye shadow, which complemented the outfit perfectly! I think this is a first for red carpet style because stars usually pair up their gowns with gloves, clutches, hair accessories, but I can't recall anyone who has matching eye shadow before! Kudos to her for trying out something new and who knows, maybe it'll be the next It-thing!
Cameron Diaz looked utterly glamorous in a rich blue crepe Stella McCartney gown complete with a cape, golden spiked belt, platform stud sandals and wooden box clutch. I especially heart how her golden spiked belt fit in with the entire outfit, and didn't clash with it at all! The silhouettes were also very clean and streamlined and the material looks so tempting to touch! This is how you do Hollywood glamour and elegance combined.
Taylor Swift looked stunning with a capital S in a spiderweb lacy dress and clutch by J.Mendel, and pink streaks trailing her hair, a la Coachella. The intricate lace detail and the cut outs were just divine, and the fierce-looking diamond studded shoulders were totally to-die-for! (according to a very biased me) She pulled a Gwyneth Paltrow with those sheer panels at the sides, but it definitely added to the wow-factor. Love the look!
Katy Perry was spotted top-to-toe in Dolce & Gabbana, wearing an entire look from their Fall 2012-2013 collection. The sequins, jewels and gold threading sparkled as the cameras flashed and it made her look like an Italian queen! She then topped it off with a golden crown, larger than life (and probably larger than her ears) earrings and vampish lipstick.
Hollywood royalty weren't the only ones attending the Gala, A-listers from the fashion world made up the guest list too. And who better to carry off runway to red carpet looks than the models themselves? Here are some of my best-dressed models in the Gala. First up, supermodel Gisele Bundchen showed off her amazing figure in a Anthony Vacarrello chain mail infused LBD and added extra glamour with David Yurman crystal-encrusted chain bracelets and rings. Punk took the form of black spiked sandals for Gisele and the look was finished off with gorgeous side-swept hair.
Model of the moment (and all-time fave model) Cara Delevingne dazzled in a special black plunging number from Burberry featuring the top half covered in little gold spikes.Fierce accessories included Dominic Jones earrings and rings, and a LeiVanKash necklace. Dramatic smokey eye makeup together with a bad-girl plait equals to a glamorous, 'don't-mess-with-me' look. Know why I love her now?
Jourdan Dunn stepped onto the red carpet with Chloe Greene and Ashley Madekwe, all of them wearing Topshop (it dressed the most stars in the event by the way). I love Jourdan's super dramatic and heavy eye makeup which really made her eyes stand out. The off-the-shoulder gown had a gorgeous sheer skirt and embellished waist which hung elegantly on Jourdan’s slender frame. She definitely worked the Greek goddess look to perfection!
Miranda Kerr was a cut above the rest in a cut out black crepe halter gown by Michael Kors. She flaunted her toned torso and enviable supermodel body in this dress which featured a coordinating paillette bandeau bra.The punk twist came in the form of a glittery set of nail bracelets as well as a Christian Louboutin metallic spike clutch which could do some serious damage.
16-year-old Hailee Steinfeld wore a custom leather gown from Donna Karan Atelier. This dress at first glance is anything but punk, but the starbursts are actually made up of gold safety pins, a perfect mix of couture and punk! Totally goes to show that punk need not be scar and spiky, safety pins are another way to wear it and Hailee nailed the look perfectly. She accented the look with custom Eddie Borgo jewelry and finished it off with Jimmy Choo shoes and clutch.
House of Style host and Victoria's Secret Angel Karlie Kloss donned a flowy lavender long sleeved Louis Vuitton gown with a velvet floral pattern over sheer mesh and a plunging neckline. She paired it up with a beautiful Monique Péan smoky and lemon quartz necklace and the most punk part of all, black hair! She dyed her hair specially for this event and I think it really worked on her. The details of the dress looked ethereal on her and she also carried an equally perfect grey alligator clutch.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked pretty in punk sporting a glamorous Gucci gown featuring a netted tulle top embroidered with metallic sequins and a olive-hued satin skirt. She added accessories such as a metallic gunmetal open toe evening shoe, a brown lizard Broadway clutch with a jeweled clasp and gorgeous drop earrings. Not neglecting her hair, Rosie glossed it back at the sides for a punk inspired hairdo.
 Dark. Punk. Glamourous.
Coco Rocha stunned in a leopard print high-neck Emanuel Ungaro gown with 3D gold butterfly details. She played them up with a swipe of metallic eye shadow below her eyes, which I thought was really unique. It was definitely a fierce look, but I bet the details were fighting for eyeballs. Guess not all supermodels can get their look right. But don't get me wrong, Coco Rocha's fabulous.

Anja Rubik went for a red leather Anthony Vaccarello and with the chain mail details, this outfit was undoubtedly an ode to punk. She brought along with the look some serious eyeliner as well as bright and glossy red lipstick. Fierce!
Constance Jablonski looked like a punk princess in a scene-stealing metallic-gold-and-black gown by Wes Gordan. I love how she kept the look simple with minimal makeup and made the gold in the dress stand out. The '90s-inspired leather harness detailing also added a punk and hard edge to the look.
Doutzen Kroes sizzled in a black quilted leather dress with a silk-organza inner skirt by Theyskens' Theory. With her bold eyeliner and black Lynn Ban heels, her look was practically screamed ''punk"! Leave it to Doutzen to look gorgeous in anything.
