pretty in pink at giambattista valli

giambattista valli fall winter 2014 show15 Giambattista Valli Fall/Winter 2014 | Paris Fashion Week
Apart from the gorgeous dark magenta metallics and the intricate black and white lace frocks, what I loved most about the Giambattista Valli show in Paris were the romantic powdery pink hues and the rose florals that adorned a number of looks in the Fall 2014 collection. Up-and-coming clotheshorse Sasha Luss wore the opening look to the segment, and for the entire time her look was on the runway, I couldn't take my eyes off it . It was the perfect winter coat : a beautiful dusty pink shade on wool, warm enough for those chilly winter days and cut just above the knee making it equal parts flirty and womanly.
Following that were dresses and sweaters with a vintage red rose print and light shades of pink, made in fabrics with the likes of impossibly delicate silk, brocade and jacquard. There was even a pastel pink cocoon coat, which had been a runway trend started in the Fall 2013 season where houses like Dior, Miu Miu and Carven all showed larger-than-life coats in different shades of pink. Valli gave the loose, round, oversized silhouette of the coat a twist of his own, adding geometric flaps to the skirt, and at the same time making it more modern than the usual eveningwear. Although the colour palette was mostly pink and red it was not at all saccharine, instead it was girly and elegant, a very powerful mix when it comes to womenswear collections. We don't need to wear pink only on Wednesdays Gretchen Weiners, besides who can resist a bouquet of roses?
