Since discovering Monique Lhuillier in the Spring 2014 season, I've been utterly obsessed about her collections and her elegant-glamour aesthetic. At #NYFW this season, Monique did what she was good at {making gorgeous eveningwear that sells out in like, seconds}, but with "a bold, dramatic twist", according to the designer. And the result is nothing short of stunning : feminine frocks adorned with architectural details, but at the same time keeping Monique's signature exquisite and ethereal aesthetic evident throughout the collection. Embellishments and embroidery were juxtaposed with delicate lace and tulle, while new materials such as mink and leather brought a bold, sexy vibe.
What I absolutely loved about the collection however was the delivery of the last few looks. At the end, Monique Lhuillier sent out a series of powerful {and more than red-carpet worthy} gowns, which was a change from the calf length and higher dresses that were shown so far. Each of them was grander than the last, and the evening wear segment started with a black shimmering body-con gown featuring long sleeves with cut-outs. The next few looks began to have fuller skirts and more details and prints, then voila! The last look was an absolutely breathtaking : a black gown with a giant billowing cape which had fuchsia floral prints trimming the edges of the equally black fabric. To end such a beautiful collection in such a grand way was perfect because the everything I adored about the collection {the delightful prints, luxurious fabrics and impeccable design} were summed up in just one look. Perfection is an understatement.
