blogger spotlight : nikki chowdhury

5
Meet Nikki Chowdhury, personal style blogger hailing from the warm sunny land of Australia. Together with her photographer and stylist Gemma Scheetz, she blogs at City of Skirts, a creative outlet for her passionate love for fashion. Documenting everything from everyday personal style to her latest shopping lists, her blog is full of sun-drenched images taken along the city streets of Down Under complete with pieces that can take you from day to night. An avid fan of ASOS and Witchery, she loves pairing luxury accessories with high street pieces, sourcing her wardrobe from a wide array of boutiques all around the world. A self-confessed city girl, Nikki is inspired by everything from city lights and department stores to New York City to Blair Waldorf of Gossip Girl and Olivia Palermo. Amidst making time to blog and study, she also watches cat videos and organizes her wardrobe by colour to pass the time. Read on to find out her favourite lipstick shade, her worst fashion faux pas and more about this month's blogger…

1. What made you decide to start blogging?
I was doing a course in Industrial Design at university, when all I really wanted to do was study fashion. I was already in my 2nd year so I figured I would stay on with the course, but try to satisfy my creative needs through a hobby instead. Fashion blogging seemed simple enough - I already shopped like a mad woman and had a pretty substantial wardrobe, so I started taking photos of my outfits and here I am today!

2. What inspired you to name your blog City of Skirts?
When I started my blog, I had just finished watching Gossip Girl. I fell in love with Blair Waldorf's style, particularly how she always wore feminine blouses with beautiful skirts. I've also always considered myself a city slicker - I'm not that crazy about nature and wildlife, and definitely prefer walking down a city street surrounded by lights and department stores rather than walking through the bush in wellies. So, I just put the two together and called it "city of skirts". It pretty much tells you everything you need to know about me - i'm a girly girl and don't take me bush walking!

3. What is your favourite part in being a personal style blogger?
I really just like documenting my outfits - whenever I'm stumped for something to wear I can look back on them to make them appropriate for the day ahead. It's also great to meet other bloggers who just get you - meeting other people who agree that spending copious amounts of time on Asos is not weird!

3
4. How would you describe your sense of style?
Feminine with an edge. I love trends, but definitely try to incorporate them in a classic way so they don't become 'one hit wonders' so to speak.

5. Favourite fashion magazine?
Vogue (obviously) and Elle.
10
6. Who would you consider as your no. 1 style inspiration?
Olivia Palermo - that woman never puts a foot wrong. She is divine.

7. If money weren't an object, where would you live?
New York City! Upper East Side - I'm a bit cheesy like that.

8. Go-to lipstick shade?
"Flat out Fabulous" by MAC. I always go for dark magenta on the lips.
17
9. Something your readers would be surprised to hear about you would be...
I eat a LOT of pizza. Sometimes 3 times a week. Me and healthy eating will never work - I have a very bad diet..and I wouldn't have it any other way haha
5
10. Top 3 wardrobe must-haves :
1. Black tailored pant by Alexander Wang or Skirt by Scanlan and Theodore
2. White button down top by Equipment
3. A statement jacket

11. Your worst fashion faux pas:
I once bought a pair of galaxy leggings - I never wore them, and have no idea why I bought them because they are completely not my style. Severe buyers remorse for that one..
2
12. A quote you live by would be :
"Enjoying life should be of much greater concern than understanding it."

13. What is the biggest challenge to you about fashion blogging?
Making time. With work, internships and study its definitely hard to make time - but seeing the end product after each shoot is all the motivation I need to make time.

Blogger Spotlight : Nicole Le Mesurier & Eli Ansari

Meet Nicole & Eli, the dynamic blogger duo behind style blog The Green Raybans. Not only do they reside in the same country as I do, they are also exactly the same age as I am! Reading their blog has always been a joy as their posts are detailed yet light-hearted and easy to understand, and the fact that I share many things in common with them makes their blog even more relatable. From their latest wants, to Q&A with notable names of the fashion world, daily inspiration to travel photo diaries, there is always something worth checking out on their blog; no wonder that they already have a loyal following of close to 500! Read the interview below for an inside scoop into these two spunky 14 year olds!
1.What inspired you to create The Green Raybans?
Both: We have always been enchanted by fashion. We wanted to start a blog to express our fascination for the industry and writing.

2. How do you spread out the blogging between the two of you?
Both: Since we both live in different parts of the world, we thought it would be quite tough to communicate. But now with so much technology like Whatsapp and Facebook, we can talk through there all the time! We don't exactly have a posting schedule but we help each other out a lot with the posting if one of us is busy.

3.What is your dream job?
N: As cliched as this sounds for any fashion blogger, my dream job would definitely to be a fashion journalist working in New York City! It's a very hard industry to get into though as so many people like myself  have the same dream!

E: I would love to work in the fashion industry, a job where I could travel often and work more on the business side of the industry. You always hear about the models and designers but I would love to work somewhat more behind the scenes and maybe even start my own magazine one day!
4. What is the best part of blogging to you?
N: For me, the best part of blogging is reading the thoughtful and sweet comments readers put up on Your posts. It's a great feeling knowing that all of your hard work has gone somewhere. I also love making blogger friends through the blogosphere community.

E: The best part of blogging for me is knowing that your posts can help or inspire someone, and not go to waste. It's also great to meet people in the blogging community!

5.Where would your dream vacation be?
N: I'm lucky enough to travel to many fascinating cities with my family. I have already visited my dream cities (New York and London) but I would love to visit Greece one day and revisit new York!

E: I'm fortunate enough to have travelled to many beautiful places before but I would love to revisit Bali or Tokyo!
6. Who do you draw inspiration from?
N: Be it a museum exhibit, a book or a movie- I draw inspiration from my daily surroundings. If you mean in terms of fashion, I love Grace Coddington's work.

E: I tend to get inspiration from absolutely anything. Sometimes it'll be from an outfit I see while I'm out in the city, and sometimes it'll be a song I hear on the radio!

7. What is your biggest achievement in 2012 and your biggest goal for 2013?
Both: Our blog reaching more recognition and loyal followers definitely had to be our biggest achievement of 2012. I also went to my first fashion show last year which was an amazing experience. Posting at a regular basis has always been quite tough for us so that would be our main goal for this year.

8. Fave food/music?
N: If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that I eat WAY too much food so this is a hard one.  I have quite a sweet tooth and I love tiramisu, cupcakes and macaroons! Mac & Cheese and chicken rice would definitely make it to my list as well. As for music, The great gatsby soundtrack, Lana Del Rey, and  the XX are currently my favourites.

E: I have a huge sweet tooth! I love eating macaroons, they're my favorite. As for savory foods, after living in Singapore for 11 years, I must say chicken rice is the best. When it comes to music, anyone that knows me knows I am a huge Lana Del Rey fan, other than that I pretty much like any music!
9. What are your hobbies?
N: I love to swim and play tennis. Some other hobbies I have include reading, running, watching my favourite shows on TV, and of course blogging!

E: I have to say, I'm a shopaholic! And while I'm not hitting the shops, I like to read, play the violin, spend way too much of my time watching Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries,  hang out with my friends and obviously blogging!
10. Your current beauty must-have?
N: I currently love my Bath and Body Works hand sanitisers. I swear I'm not a germaphobe, they just smell so nice! I also love Moroccan Oil and it has done wonders to my dry hair.

E: Recently I have been using my Clarins instant light lip perfecter and Rimmel Stay Matte Powder religiously!
Untitled #106
11. What is the craziest thing you have done in the name of fashion/What is the best thing you have ever bought?
Both: The craziest thing We've ever done is  just starting this blog and putting ourselves out there like this, in the name of fashion.

12. What advice do you have for fellow style bloggers around the world?
Both: Our blog is still fairly new, however we have gone through our rough patches of the blog from the early beginning.  Our main advice would be to just stay true to yourself, only post about something that genuinely interests you. If you, like us, blog with someone that you are close to you should never let anything get in the way of your relationship.

Blogger Spotlight : Victoria Berezhna

This month's Blogger Spotlight features a very special blogger whose blog I have admired for a long time. Meet Victoria Berezhna, a self-proclaimed wanderluster who aspires to discover the world through fashion, culture and cuisine. Her blog, Bougeotte features everything from photo diaries of her travels to beautiful places around the world (read : Monaco, Paris, London and Seychelles) and her love for style icons from the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O, to the latest item on her lust list and inspirational images. I love how she manages to weave all her diverse interests into one gorgeous blog, and like all her other faithful followers of her blog, every post has been a joy to read for me. Her flair for writing has also earned her a place as contributor for the blog {this is glamorous} and whatever your interest is, you would definitely find something to swoon over in her blog. Read on to find out more!

1.What's the story behind Bougeotte?
Bougeotte was created around this time last year as a personal place for inspiration and all the things that I love - mainly fashion, culture, travels & aesthetic images. The name is a direct translation into French of the term 'wanderlust' which means someone with a strong desire to travel, however for me the word signifies much more - someone who yearns to discover the world through its different elements: culture, music, the arts, the humanities, fashion, cuisine.

2. Why did you create Bougeotte?
I created Bougeotte to post about all those things that I love, and simply because I love the idea of merging fashion with history, art and cultures around the world. I'm a very opinionated person, with have strong views in everything - and Bougeotte seemed the perfect place to tell my opinions on fashion, and link it to everything I enjoy. I've also met some really amazing people, and received opportunities I never would have dreamed of - I had no idea that I was signing up to this when I pressed 'Done' and created my blog.

3. What do you currently do?
I'm still in school - I have one year left until I go to university.
4. What is your dream career?
My dream career is to take over LVMH and become its CEO - to be in charge of the business behind fashion brands like Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Givenchy or Céline. But knowing me, in one year I'll change my mind and want to become Secretary-General of the UN, since I want to study International Relations in university and change my mind about things every five minutes.

5. How would you describe your sense of style?
It's ever changing - one day I'm in a classic mood where I wear a simple t-shirt tucked into jeans, or a trench coat, whilst other days I love wearing edgy pieces such as a skort with an assymetric top and Alaïa-style booties, or mixing prints. Right now I'm only 16 years old - so I love changing the style to surprise people and myself. Recently however, I've been into the punk vibe, wearing leather jackets and biker boots, but giving it all a nonchalant sense of elegance with a chain-link bag or some cat eye sunglasses.

6. From all the places you have been, which one was your favourite?
As a wanderluster, I really couldn't say, as all of the places I have travelled to have had some kind of an impact on me - whether it's Uganda with its amazing people and simple way of life, New York giving its unstoppable energy to everyone living in it, or the Seychelles with its paradisiac beaches. Naming only one place would be discriminating every other place I've been to - impossible!
7. Who inspires you?
Timeless style icons from past decades; Jackie O, Catherine Deneuve, Grace Kelly, Wallis Simpson, Audrey Hepburn, as well as modern ones such as Olivia Palermo. Frequently it's people I see on street style blogs who I don't know, but who have the one item which I love, and end up lusting after for about a month.

8. What is your biggest achievement so far in this year?
This year has been absolutely amazing - I organized a charity fashion show with my best friend, which turned out to be an amazing success, raising €2000 for a local NGO, I started writing for the lifestyle and inspiration blog {this is glamorous}, and attended the Parsons Summer Program to study fashion history. I've also travelled quite a lot; The Gambia, Monaco, France, London, Turkey, and planning on travelling to London, Paris and Singapore later this year! Right now I'm applying to universities, which is very very exciting too.

9. Fave food/music?
My favourite food would have to be truffle risotto, and my favourite song will forever be Sweet Nothing by Florence Welch.

10. Something special about your country?
Spain has amazing things - including siestas, fiestas and the sun. You'll have to see for yourself though, since these are only three of the hundreds of experiences my country has to offer.

11. What are your hobbies?
I absolutely love horse riding & show jumping - I do it every day I can, it calms me down and is a really good way to exercise. I am also starting to play polo soon, which will be challenging yet really rewarding.

12. Any wardrobe must-haves?
A pair of perfect skinny jeans, a black leather jacket, some ripped jean shorts, a marl-gray tee that sits on you perfectly, a trench coat in a pastel colour, a chain-link bag, and something red - preferably a ruby ring. I wear mine everywhere!
13. What advice do you have for fellow style bloggers around the world?
Be yourself, but at the same time find a niche that's perfect for you, since your readers will know what kind of posts to expect from you and will know you won't start posting about something completely random like One Direction or cuff links after a series of posts on summer inspiration and travel diaries. Also something very important, do not copy other people's blogs, since it backfires and incredibly annoys the owners, and always link back to wherever you got inspiration or images from. Aside from that, stay true to yourself and the message you're trying to convey.

13. What advice do you have for fellow style bloggers around the world?
- There is one quote which I have found on Pinterest some time ago and it always helps me when I think everything is moving in the wrong direction concerning blogging and in life in general: "You've only got three choices in life: Give up, give in or give it all."
